(image) Information Alert #4.07Riot police in Bulawayo have arrested an estimated 100 student protestors who had intended to march to the Governors office to have their grievances addressed by the Governor and Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Technology. About 5 truckloads of riot police pounded on the students in 12th avenue as they marched to town. Sources in Bulawayo say that a number of students have been injured, with one student, Edwin Murira, sustaining a broken leg.The students are demanding an end to the current fees structure, and are courting the government for higher payouts. The students also contend that they cannot afford to pay the residence fees. The arrests come in the wake of a flurry of relentless arrests being experienced by students in Bulawayo. In early January, police in Bulawayo arrested 20 students who were demonstrating over the continued deterioration of the education sector in the country. Only last week, 23 students were arrested as they demonstrated for free education, health, the improvement of social service delivery and against Mugabe’s intended plan of being a life President.
