Removing economic barriers to higher education
SAIH works to ensure that no one is excluded from higher education due to financial barriers.
Worldwide, an increasing number of young people aspire to pursue higher education. For many, this is a gateway to employment, for others a necessary means to build the future they want or to escape poverty. Higher education also benefits society by training professionals such as doctors, bureaucrats, teachers, entrepreneurs, and engineers. Education resolves crises, promotes development, reduces inequality, and contributes to more inclusive societies.
While the demand for higher education is on the rise globally, insufficient public funding, growing commercialization, and high tuition fees have turned higher education into a privilege for the wealthiest. In the last decades, there has been significant investment in primary education in developing countries, and with positive results. Now it’s time to also invest in higher education.
SAIH`s goal is for everyone to have access to quality higher education. Therefore, we advocate for increased public funding, as well as progressive loan and scholarship schemes. We work to improve the conditions for higher education globally and advocate for higher education to be prioritized in Norwegian development policies.
