Stories from our work
Norway
SAIH works to improve the conditions for education and development globally, including in Norway!
To improve the conditions for education and development globally, collaboration between governments, civil society, and academia is necessary in all countries, including Norway.
SAIH works to increase knowledge, engagement, and debate on global issues, especially among Norwegian students and academics. Our goal is also to mobilize support and achieve our demands for a more solidarity-based international policy.

These are the issues SAIH has been advocating for in recent years.
Vital program for student activists
Student at Risk (StAR) is a protection program that provides persecuted student activists from around the world the opportunity to complete their education in Norway. SAIH initiated the program, which is now fully funded by the Norwegian government. In recent years, the program has also gained attention outside Norway, including Poland, Germany, and the EU.
Recognition of student activists as human rights defenders.
In August 2023, Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt launched revised guidelines for the protection of human rights defenders for Norwegian foreign missions. The outcome of SAIH's lobbying efforts is clearly reflected in the new guidelines, which, for the first time, include students and academics.
Protection of education in war and conflict
SAIH supports a Norwegian initiative to protect education in war and conflict. So far, 118 countries have signed the International Safe Schools Declaration (2023), where they commit to avoiding military use of schools and universities in conflict situations.
