Stories from our work
Nicaragua
SAIH has been present in Nicaragua since 1980s. Today, we support our partners in advancing intercultural education and embracing intercultural gender perspectives.
Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, with coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The country's history is deeply influenced by its colonial past, social conflicts, autonomy movements, and political changes. Intertwined with this context is the struggle of indigenous communities and Afro-descendants against exclusion, gender-based violence, and the loss of local knowledge.
SAIH's partners have established recognized intercultural universities and research centers to counteract knowledge erosion and language loss. They are actively involved in promoting and strengthening intercultural gender perspectives, and striving to create a more inclusive and just learning environment.
