Stories from our work
South Africa
SAIH has collaborated with South African partners since 1961 when SAIH was established as part of Norwegian students' struggle against apartheid.
Despite progressive legislation in various areas and its reputation as a "Rainbow Nation", South Africa remains the country with the world's highest economic inequality. The significant disparities between the rich and the poor follow ethnic and social divisions from the apartheid era, and these are also reflected in the education system.
Today, SAIH supports four organizations working to ensure that higher education is accessible, safe, and inclusive for all, regardless of ethnic background, class, gender, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
